Day 01: Arrive Paro by Druk Air
The flight from Delhi to Paro via Kathmandu is a spectacular mountain flight. Weather permitting you will have great views of all the mighty Himalayan peaks including Everest and Kanchenjunga. The world’s highest and third highest peaks. As you approach Paro Mt. Jhomolhari greets you with a stunning view and warm welcome.
Destiny Bhutan staff will greet you upon arrival at Paro Airport (7,000ft) and drive you through the valley of Paro to the hotel. After lunch visit Ta Dzong, the National Museum housed in an ancient watchtower, which has a fine collection of ancient Thangka painting, textiles, weapons and artefacts. Walk to the traditional wooden bridge. o/n Hotel. LD.
Day 02: Paro Sightseeing and drive to Thimphu
Early morning hike to viewpoint of Taktshang, the Tiger’s Nest (one and a half hours walk). This magical monastery clings to a vertical granite cliff 3,000 ft above the valley floor. The monastery unfortunately got burnt in 1998 but it has recently been reconstructed. On the way back drive upto the Drugyel Dzong. This Dzong is of historical importance (which was in ruin for many years and now it is under construction), from whose ramparts the Bhutanese repelled Tibetan invaders. On a clear day one can view the sacred Mount Chhomolari, Mountain of Goddess (24,000 ft), also Visit Kyichu Lhakhang one of the oldest monasteries in the Kingdom, which was built in the 7th Century.
Transfer to Thimphu, the drive is a pleasant one offering panoramic view of the colourful farmhouses and paddy fields following the Paro river and later the Thimphu river. o/n Hotel. BLD
Day 03: Thimphu Sightseeing.
Thimphu to the capital of Bhutan, where most of the modern facilities is still not reach, some say that Thimphu is only capital in the world without the computerised tariff lighting system.
Morning visit memorial Chorten/Stupa built in the memory of Lt. His Majesty the King by the Royal Queen Mother, Motithang mini Zoo to see the National animal The Takin. Drive down to viewpoint from where you have magnificent view of Thimphu valley.
Today is also an auspicious day because it is his Majesty the King’s birthday. All over the Kingdom there will be celebrations, archery matches etc. You can visit the National Stadium and witness the shows and celebrations; people will be playing archery etc. Can also visit the Weekend market or bazaar where most residents do their shopping in the open market. Can also be at leisure to explore the Thimphu city for shopping, handicrafts etc. O/n Hotel BLD.
Day 04: Drive from Thimphu to Punakha.
Drive to Punakha over the Dochula pass at 10,000feet. Weather permitting you has great views of the entire eastern Himalayan range.
Visit Punakha Dzong, which is the winter home of Je Khenpo (the chief Abbot) the head of Central Monastic body, Punakha is also the old capital of the country. Visit Chimey Lhakhang or the Temple of the Devine Mad Man- Lama Drukpa Kuenley. This is the Temple of Fertility in Bhutan.
PM can also visit the Wangduephodrang Dzong, which is perched strategically on a ridge facing the Wangdue River. Visit the town at Wangdue. O/n Hotel.
Day 05: Drive back to Paro have lunch at Thimphu
Begin your onward journey back to Paro via Thimphu. Complete sightseeing at Thimphu and Paro that have not been covered. Complete shopping etc. O/n Hotel BLD.
